The article presents the historical view on creation and functioning in the USA and Western Europe of venture funds and direct investment funds being important financial vehicles for innovations development and implementation. Important role of venture and direct investment funds is highlighted for the conditions of modernization which successful implementation depends on efficiency of such funds.
